Expectations of Youth Action Council Members

The Youth Action Council is a volunteer-led group of passionate young people helping shape the future of Wear It Purple.

Being part of the YAC is an opportunity to make a real difference for LGBTQIA+SB young people across Australia. We know everyone has different lives, commitments, abilities and access needs, and we do not expect perfection. What we do ask for is commitment, communication, and a willingness to get involved.

Meetings

YAC members are expected to attend our monthly online meetings.

Meetings are held every four weeks at 6:30pm AEST/AEDT and alternate between Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings to make them as accessible as possible.

Communication

We ask YAC members to stay in touch, respond to messages where possible and actively participate in discussions.

We want to hear your ideas, thoughts and feedback. YAC members are encouraged to contribute through the YAC group chat, online meetings and project discussions.

Events

Where possible, YAC members are encouraged to support Wear It Purple events and activities throughout the year.

This may include:

• Attending local events

• Supporting Wear It Purple Day activities

• Helping at community stalls, workshops or campaigns

• Participating in online events or projects

We ask YAC members to aim to be involved in at least three activities or events each year, depending on what is accessible and realistic for them.

Wear It Purple Day

Wear It Purple Day is our biggest event of the year, and we encourage all YAC members to be involved in some way.

This could include helping behind the scenes, supporting social media, attending an event, creating content or helping your school, workplace or community celebrate.

Documentation + Training

YAC members are expected to stay up to date with important information, including:

• Wear It Purple policies and guidelines

• Training or onboarding materials

• Key updates shared through the YAC channels

Take Action

Wear It Purple is powered by volunteers, which means everyone plays a part.

YAC members are encouraged to support projects led by other members and, where possible, take the lead on at least one idea, project, campaign or collaboration each year.

This could be something small or something big — what matters is that you bring your ideas, energy and perspective.

A Final Note

We understand that life happens. Study, work, family, health and other commitments can sometimes make it harder to participate.

You do not need to do everything. What matters most is that you communicate, stay engaged where you can, and bring your passion, creativity and lived experience to the Youth Action Council.
